My job has no issue with people working a second job as long as it doesn't interfere with your work product. I work at a law firm and i think their only concern would be conflict of interest like someone working at another firm or a company we are suing... One of my coworkers completed a paid internship last fall in an unrelated field and out manager was fine with it.
We have to complete an Ethics Disclosure statement regarding the 2nd job just to insure there's no conflict of interest. Even volunteer work is reported.
I work overnights, so I can work some other job during the day, as long as I'm in on time. Taxes qualify...and I once tried, for a few weeks, another full time job, along with a part time job when I could fit it in. Good times, good times.
I don't understand why you would even tell them you have a 2nd job? Who cares? Unless there is a conflict of interest, I don't see why this is even an issue.
I see only 2 problems with having a second job. The first is conflict of interest. You cannot work for a competitor, or in some companies, a vendor or client.
The second problem would be if the 2nd job created conflicts of availability with your first job.
