Because there's no reason for suspicion.

I am in my forties. I will be going to night school this semester twice a week.

At some point I will be an intern. The degree plan I am interested in requires one.

I sure hope there are no employees wherever I get an internship at looking down on me for being an intern in my forties.

I would be curious to know why someone that old (with tons of work experience and likely bills to pay or family to support) would be willing to work as an intern

But there's nothing wrong with it.

Why would someone do an internship?

I have no idea... it's madness doing all that work for little to no pay.

It would certainly have nothing to do with clocking up some experience to try and garnish a resume in an effort to find a fulfilling job.

Maybe he might be getting paid more then you do. He could be your future boss for all you know. Are you sure it is a school internship or something else planned? Sometimes people shadow jobs as part of consulting and reports.

I can't tell you my impression of him, but I can certainly tell my impression of YOU.

Good for him, he changed careers or something like that. You wanted him to stay at home and beg for handouts ? Nothing wrong with him, whatever his reasons.

OP and some of you others I personally would think that I wish I could stick him in a room with all of you for a few days, maybe you can learn something about life, while he learns something about the job.

As for how I would feel about him, as someone that reinvented myself in my early 30s I would feel a tremendous amount of respect and admiration, it takes guts and fortitude to make it through school, agree to start back at the bottom and leave you previous career behind totally being 10-15 years older than your classmates, being 25 years older would be that much harder.

Glad to see a lot of positive responses here.

Perhaps the OP didn't mean it, but does seem to be these types of ageism threads once in a while.

Being in your 40's, 50's, 60's, doesn't mean you are worthless and 'should' be confined to an old folks home.

I get that many industries are ageist, so nice to see examples that go above this.
