Doing work for a tech company through a staffing agency. Myself and another guy started working there early this year and we were on the same team. We were assigned to work in a very remote location for business reasons that I don't completely understand.
A week ago I hear from my staffing agency that I've "been affected" by a change in the client's budget but that I should consider interviewing for another team. I tell my news to the other guy on my team, tell him all the specifics, all about my plans (We used to regularly talk about our career plans), and ask him whether he has heard any news that he can tell me. He tells me that he's getting to change locations, but doesn't tell me anything else. I don't want to probe into details, but, honestly, I'm interested. He and I have basically stopped talking to each other, as we're apparently going our separate ways.
Meanwhile, I interviewed for the other team and got the job, but I have to work from my same location. I'm satisfied with everything about my job except for the location. I can't fathom living out here for another year. I only took this other job so that I wouldn't be unemployed.
I'm very interested in why my former teammate is getting to change locations. None of the other guys who work for my staffing agency out in this location have ever gotten to change to the "good" location.
Anyways, I'm trying to figure out my next plan. I could more easily figure it out if I understood what happens on the business side of things, and what happened with my teammate.
