I've been considering using a career coach for a few months now. I've heard of a lot of professionals using career coaches at some point in their career, and I'm wondering what the experience is all about.

Has anyone used a Career coach here, and if so, what was your experience like with them? Did you feel it was worth any money you had to pay, and how much did the coaching cost you? How did you choose your coach? Did anyone have a unemployed to instantly employed experience after using a coach?

Just trying to get a feel for this, and seeing if it would be worth it for me. Thanks!

Last week, I went to my local onestop agency to get a career adviser. It was free. If anything it will give me emotional support and motivation.

I have never used one, but know a few, and been pitched by a couple of them. From my understanding (and someone who has done it can correct me if I am wrong) they help you stay motivated and focused, plus spend some time working with you to figure out your career goals and the steps to take to get there. I have been quoted about $250-300 a month, but have no idea what it would costs in other areas.

I've been to one and I thought she helped me a lot, especially with my resume. The only reason I stopped going to her was because it was $90 for an hour and a half and I couldn't afford it after the first few visits because I was unemployed at the time.

I used a career coach years ago. She did help me with a resume, but not fine tuning a solid career path. She also hooked me up with an interview at a tv station to work straight commission in tv sales. I bought her beginner package which consisted of three or four one hour sessions. On the last session she basically said, "You can be anything you want to be!" I don't feel I was profoundly assisted in finding my dream job. Although, if I met the right career coach, I'd go for anther round.
