Does Asheville have an overcrowded feel to it? I am an electrician and plan on moving to Clyde or Crabtree..any1 have info on any of these? I live in a town with 30,000 people but to get around it takes forever. Thank You
Clyde and Crabtree are a good 30-45 minutes from parts of Asheville depending on the weather/traffic situations and where you are heading.
Clyde only had 1 redlight for most of its history and Crabtree, to my knowledge, still has more cows than humans.... and that's saying a lot because it doesn't have that many cows.
A town of 30,000 people will be very, very different from Crabtree/Clyde.
Asheville would be more similar... and at times, traffic can be a snagglepuss... but nothing worse than you are used to unless the weather interferes.
I don't know your definition of overcrowded... I'm from a town way smaller than Asheville but have lived in cities way larger than Asheville... so I don't share your experiences and can't know your perspective.
I have lived in Crabtree before and from there it takes forever to get pretty much anywhere except for The Pilot gas station and I-40. Since they have open the new walmart, it takes probably 35 minutes or so to get there, depending on which part of Crabtree you're in.
I really like Asheville, it doesn't feel too crowded to me. Traffic can get heavy, but so can Maggie Valley.
Do any of these places have a sort of hick or hillbilly feel/people cause that is what i am more or less looking for.
Well you have your self-important cocky wannabe good' ol boy as*holes and you have your country folk, who are good people for the most part. I was born and raised in Canton and it sounds like Crabtree/Iron Duff/Fines creek etc.. (the different connected areas that comprise northern Haywood county) is a good bet for you, very quiet but still not completely isolated from civilization.

It depends, If you come from a town of 30,000 you'll probably adjust easier than someone hailing from Dogpatch or something. Asheville can get really congested especially the rush hour traffic at the I-40/I-240/I-26 junction that comes to a standstill more often than not. Asheville is growing (pop. is about 75,000 and over 400,000 in the 4 county metro) and the existing roads are becoming less able to accomodate the traffic at times. So unless you're a city guy I would go for a nearby outlying town.
