We are retired and considering purchasing in the Sarasota, Charlotte harbor, punta gorda area. One of the main reasons for our attraction to this area is the great fishing and easy boating. We do not care about going deep sea or way off shore. We stay inshore, intercoastal in the bay in a small 19' deck boat.

We also like the idea of living on a canal. We like the real estate prices, variety of restaurants, shops and bars.

A very good friend lives in WPB. We've visited that area and didn't think it was a good fit for us. However, he keeps insisting that we should seriously consider Jupiter and, especially, Juno.

Can anyone tell me about the fishing and boating in that area? It looks like it's mostly open water ocean. And can anyone compare other things in the sarasota/CH/punta gored area to Jupiter/Juno for us?

There's tons of great boating and fishing in the North County area. I'm not much of a fisherman but have a bunch of friends that go pretty regularly.
We go out boating when we can and there is lots of fun places to go, good restaurants on the water, and miles of waterway to explore. The only downside is that a lot of the intra-coastal is a no wake zone.

Resurrecting a really old thread here, but interested if anyone has any comparisons of the Sarasota/Charlotte Harbor/Punta Gorda area to Jupiter. Like the OP, we are interested in living on a canal and fishing and boating.

Very different areas.. but could live on canal and fish/boat in both areas..

Florida's southeast coast (Jupiter) is more New Yawkers/fast paced - the west coast not so much (but growing rapidly as is the entire state).

It really depends if you're looking for a slow or fast paced life.

Thanks, CFBS. Do you or anyone else have a comparison of the job market between the two? Is the outlook for a new resident better on one coast vs the other for someone with a financial executive background?

If you need to work.. then I'd suggest you go with Southeast Florida.

Have you started doing your homework online to see what jobs pay that you're qualified for?

Many people think once they arrive...getting a job becomes so much easier - and maybe for a few select careers it is.. but for most - it's not all that easy if you just got here or have been here 20 years or more.

This isn't true.......SE Coast Palm Beach to Boca......yes lots of NYr's. Jupiter is 50 miles north of Boca, significantly less NY element.

After living in Boca and Deerfield for 21 years...
I live in Jupiter now and respectfully disagree.

Yes I have. Our move will not take place for another 5 months so I am right now reaching out to recruiters in FL and reading CD multiple times a day. Thanks for sharing your opinions!
