We may be relocating to the area in the Spring. My biggest concern is what life will be like for my two kids (7 and 9).

I'm curious about what kids do for fun in the neighborhoods. In general, do you see a lot of kids running around? Do they ride their bikes and play outside often? If so, is it all year round, or do people hide in their houses during the summer? How do most kids spend their summers? Do people congregate at the neighborhood pools?

I hear the schools are good. Is there a lot of parental involvement in the public schools? Strong community feel?

I have already read posts from people who used to live in Wellington but moved, people who hate strip malls, or who think the area was only great 20 years ago. We are really hoping to hear from people that actually live there right now.

Thanks for any input.

We currently live in Wellington. My wife and I moved here 2 years ago from NY/NJ metro area and are having no regrets. Our kids are now grown, so I can't speak to issue of school and parent involvement, except to say, based on my observation, and what I hear from my neighbours who have kids in school - There appears to be high level of parental involvement.

Wellington is a very family friendly village with lots of ammenities for the kids and the entire family. Most schools are A -rated. Many young kids in the area ride their bikes to school, some accompanied by a parent, which I think is so cool.
No, contrary to what I heard before I moved down - people do not lock up in their houses during the summer. They go about their daily business, similar to folk up North during the cold & snow storms. It can get very hot. Many communities have a pool, and many homes have their own pools, so folk who choose to can cool off. I think your kids given their ages will do well. They will have many kids their own ages to befriend and have fun with. Best luck with your move.

I don't have kids but rented short time in Wellington. I felt safe and it seemed there were a lot of young families. Many kids in general go to camp during the summer. Also a lot depends on what community you live in of how many children there are around. Hopefully your kids can join some activities after school. Even through the library or community education they have classes for kids. Good luck with your move
