This graphic says it all, at least 35 tornado reports, 41 damaging wind reports, and 91 hail reports for a grand total of 167 severe weather reports wraps up the day across Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan.
The hardest hit was the Springfield, MO area where in Greene County there were 6 injuries and 1 fatality in one tornado. Another tornado in Mason County, IL also caused an injury.
This is all in association with a powerful storm system that continues to push east across the US. More severe weather in the form of mainly damaging winds, and an isolated tornado will be possible across Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, Michigan and even parts of Ohio tomorrow. Hopefully whatever happens then will be much lighter in comparison to today's weather.

SA, I'm SO glad you posted this. We were watching the weather channel late last night and they showed the devastation in Wisc. I just feel so bad for the people who were caught in those storms. It seems a bit unusual for this, but has it ever occured before in January? I mean especially so far north?

The tornado event in Wisconsin is almost unprecedented by January standards. The weather patterns have been VERY strange recently.

The only other recorded January tornado in Wisconsin was in 1967
Well, we are gearing up here in North MIssissippi for the impending storms. Currently, Memphis is getting hit pretty good with thunderstorms, and from what the news is reporting--Arkansas has been getting pummeled this morning. sigh. We are already seeing winds increase, the good news is that we have not had an outbreak of sunshine thank goodness. Ok, a severe thundrestorm has just been issued for the first county in Mississippi.....here we gooo
We have had possible thunderstorms forecast this week but none have materialized. We had a cold front whip through though about noon today. Hopefully, it's now too cool for thunderstorms. (It was 80 degrees in Dallas yesterday.)
An outbreak this far north this time of year is indeed a very rare occurance. Usually outbreaks on this scale in January occur in the southeastern states.
WI had tornadoes in January for the first time since the 1950s I believe they said. NUTS!!!
