I had heard of Ion-Q in Discovery District but not Quantam Catalyzer, but more companies being started here, opening offices in College Park, hiring staff that want to work and live in the area is a good thing.

A new College Park-based company founded by a University of Maryland professor further solidifies the area’s status as a global hotspot for quantum-related start-ups. Quantum Catalyzer (Q-Cat) was created by Ronald Walsworth, a serial entrepreneur and director of UMD’s Quantum Technology Center. The company’s mission is to identify the most promising ideas in quantum technology and create companies that can translate that technology into solutions for society.

Side note but Maryland baseball has had a great year, and they are hosting NCAA regionals in College Park this weekend for first time ever I believe. They had to bring in extra bleachers in the outfield to accommodate, and I think there was a sell out tonight with 3,000+ in the building, looked great when watching the online stream.

This is good for College Park because at a time when school is out for summer and campus is quiet, this should bring an influx of visitors for a weekend. I assume the other 3 teams in the CP regional are all staying at local hotels, eating at local restaurants, and they are bringing friends and family with them to watch them play. The other three schools are all east coast, UConn, Long Island University, and Wake Forest.

Ah, I think you may be right! I was walking through downtown today and I was surprised how lively it was given that most students had already left. The baseball game probably had something to do with it.

On a different note, I tried the new Mr. Fries Man. The operation was quite slow, perhaps partly because it was pretty crowded and also they just started, but I was not impressed with the fries or the stake. The BBQ ranch sauce with bacon was good, and the fried chicken ok.

Definitely had an impact. Hotel room rates got bumped up about $50 to $100 night. Similar to what happens in the fall with major home football games. In the 1990s and early 2000s the Odyssey of the Mind international competition was held in College Park in the early summer.about once every three years. It brought 5,000 people to the area for a week and made a big difference.

Looks like a new food hall is coming to Riverdale in July, less than 2 miles from the heart of UMD campus. 8,500 square foot food hall. Some big names from NYC restaurants but these are ghost kitchens, so we'll see how good the food really is, if the chef and main people are not here but just lending their name and recipes.

https://dc.eater.com/2022/6/7/231573...-eatery-mokbar

Le Fantome, situated at The Station at Riverdale Park Development (4501 Woodberry Street), carves out room for three dedicated dine-in stalls, a full-service bar, and six ghost kitchen vendors. The all-day lineup is curated by Hospitality HQ founding partner Akhtar Nawab — an award-winning chef and restaurateur behind Mexican hotspots Alta Calidad in New York and Otra Vez in New Orleans.

Located near the University of Maryland, Hyattsville, and Mount Rainier off the Route 1 corridor, Le Fantome augments Riverdale’s rising reputation as a dining attraction. Its mixed-use complex, also home to Denizens Brewing Co., sits not too far from brisket standard-bearer 2Fifty Texas BBQ.

Good article Trader Joe's coming to College Park. https://today.umd.edu/trader-joes-to...r-college-park -- The article also mentions some tenants of Discovery District. I knew about WeWork, but did not know about Adobe and Capital One, those are some big name companies, is this a very new thing or not?

Popular grocer Trader Joe’s will open a store this year on the Baltimore Avenue corridor in College Park after being recruited by partners led by the University of Maryland and the Terrapin Development Company (TDC).

“We are all excited to have this new grocery option in Prince George’s County,” she said to cheers from the audience. “This has been a long time coming, and a tremendous amount of work was required to make this happen.”

Aster College Park will open this fall on the site of the former Quality Inn and Plato’s Diner. Located at the corner of Calvert Road, it will offer nearly 400 residential units, two parking garages and 62,000 square feet of retail. The two-building complex, connected by a pedestrian bridge, will also feature outdoor dining and gathering spaces.

I knew about Capitol One. I didn't hear about Adobe though.
