I haven't read a thread that conclusively confirms what EDD actually does. However, it seems reasonable that if you have 1099 income, and there is the possibility that it occurred during a UI claim, that EDD will contact the issuer of the 1099 to determine the time frame the work was performed rather than solely relying on a claimant saying that the 1099 income was earned after the claim was exhausted.

Additionally not all 1099-misc is from earned income. Does the EDD look at the 1099s closely to see how they are categorized - or actually see the tax return? - some 1099s are dividend payout, prize winings, or unearned income.

I received 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, and 1099-B during my time on UI, and never heard a thing about it. I think EDD knows the difference.

Are there threads that point to EDD calling a 1099 issuer?

"General assistance" is NOT wages that goes on a UI claim form.

Default 1099 and new claim

Ok i know this has been covered 1099 and unemployment but i want to see if I understood this correctly on my current claim i have exhausted all benefits and i am able to reapply for benefits December 1st. But right now i am in the process of getting work as 1099 and only plan on working 1099 for about 4 weeks does eligibility get determined if i decided to end working under 1099 and open a new claim. Can i open a new claim December 1st even while still working as 1099 i dont know if i made myself clear but basically from what I understand from previous posts is that edd only cares about 1099 while receiving benefits but since ill be filing a new claim after i stop my 1099 work should i mention my 1099 wages or could I apply for new benefits December 1st.

Do NOT do 1099 work if you want UI. Even if the income doesn't hurt you, it looks like you joined the ranks of the self employed, and then fired yourself to get back on UI.

Doing it now, and doing it later can just cause too many problems. If you are perfectly OK if you get your benefits cut off, then have at it. If you need that UI, then stay away from it.
