I'm 27 and been unemployed about 95% of the last nearly 3 years. I'm now joining the AF Reserve next month to get training in a new job field... I hope it works.

Well, if I had at least an AA Degree and/or Certification, I don't think I'd have nearly as hard of a time as I am finding a job. Some folks will say that a college degree means nothing, but wife and I have to totally disagree. She is on another job now where her Bachelor's Degree was require for the position. It is true that some positions don't ask for a Degree, but many do!

Truth is there are plenty of jobs for the top 5% of the applicants.
Not if you are over 60. Are you saying all of the 15 million unemployed need to be in the top 5% to get a job? There aren't 15 million jobs available. Somehow, no one gets that.
I was laid-off from a job that was in my field in January 2009, a job that I had for 6 1/2 years. I have a Bachelor's Degree. I took a cashier's job at a local supermarket in June 2009. Didn't realize that I was hurting myself when the time came for a new claim the following year. Went to $83 a week Got a receptionist job at a horrible company last May, got paid just a little above the minimum. And it wasn't horrible because of the pay, one of the managers berated me every chance he got. He'd scream at me, never got toilet paper or paper towels for the bathroom (I was the only one there most of the time). I stayed because I really needed the money, otherwise you'd know where I would have told him to go. Funny too, if I was so horrible, why didn't he fire me? Anyway, I hung on to the cashier job and also have a freelance writing job that I have had since 2008. Then, I got a civil service job in October. I quit the cashier and receptionist jobs. I thought, finally, I felt relief about not having to worry about money. Out of my training class of 20, there are 4 left, me being one of the many that was let go in February. Seems this place seems to do this all the time: Hire so many people because they get funding for each person, let most of the classes go, hire more people, get more funding, etc. I still have my freelance job. I have applied everywhere and anywhere. I was at McDonald's today for the job fair. Oh and here's something that will make your day: I applied for a job pruning blueberry bushes at a local blueberry farm for $6-$7 an hour. The guy said he had 12 people already and most were unemployed. Yeah, the economy is terrific, isn't it?
I'm tired myself of applying, etc and have low moments, but, you have to keep plugging away.
Good luck to everyone!

Reason: grammar
No kidding. I just got a rejection letter because I didn't meet the employer's height requirement. I guess it is time to start wearing high heels to all my interviews.
Thats illegal under the law!
