My spouse and I will be driving about three hundred miles on Christmas Day through VA and NC. We are leaving about 9AM and will be on the road for both lunch and dinner. We really don't want to eat at a gas station. I wonder if there is going to be any restaurants open in the Shenandoah Valley.
If you have traveled a long distance on Christmas Day, where have you ended up eating while on the road to your destination. Tell us you experiences? (And if you found a place open, was it busy and was it a chain or an independent restaurant?

When you say gas station do you mean you don't want to eat at a truck stop also? Their food is usually pretty good.
You might find a few mom and pop diners open. There are also the truck stops. As already mentioned many truck stop places serve decent food and lots of it. Use to be places like Denny's were open. Years ago many Denny's never closed and did not even have locks on the doors.
If you are starting out from home you could pack a picnic lunch and dinner and take it with you.

Both Christmas and Christmas Eve are the worst nights for eating out. I recommend eating your food earlier in the day. After 6pm, a lot of options are closed. If you are lucky, find an Asian restaurant as they rarely close on Christmas.
I drove around St. Louis one Christmas evening and the ONLY open place was Del Taco.
