I have to ask...Does the toilet in the 4 dollar room come with toilet paper? If not that would be a deal breaker for me.

I like the idea, it'd be a more economical way to house our prison inmates

It would be named "Motel 4", and it would advertise $4 / night, no matter what.

For $4 / night, you get a tiny room with a fold-down mattress, a faucet, a toilet, a sheet, a pillow, and a shelf to put your stuff on. There would be complimentary USB charging of phones, but plugging things in costs $1 / kWh.

At $4 / night, the showers are down the hall, and cost $5 for a 5-minute wash and 5 minutes after that to dress. Rooms with en-suite showers begin at $24 / night but are showers are still limited to 15 minutes per day.

There would be a 19" SD TV in all rooms, but by default the only thing you can watch are promotions for pay-per-view movies and Motel 4 commercials. Luckily, you are able to watch network TV and a limited selection of basic cable channels for $4 / hour or $10 / day. ESPN is available for another $5 / day. Movies cost between $10 and $16.

Wireless internet is free, but it's limited to just above dial-up speeds. To unlock the full speed costs $4 / hour or $10 / day.

Cleaning service is an additional $4 / day.

Booking a room carries a $4 credit card processing / transaction fee. You can also pay up-front in cash, but that requires a $4 till fee or a $4 credit card processing fee unless you use a Motel 4 Pre-Paid Visa.

Parking is a necessity as most of the hotels would be run out of abandoned malls, motels, and big-box stores. However, that would carry an additional fee, usually $10 / night.

What do you think of my proposal?
This was Motel 6 and Super 8 many years ago, so it isn't new. In fact, for the most part they are still that way with very few frills. It is just the $6 rate is now $60 or more. We used to have to pay for even local calls. You mention $4,no way matter what was or was not included could a hotel or motel operate with such a low charge. BTW, most of those low budget airlines lonely really stay that was for a year or so. Then their prices start creeping up just like everything else.

For kids wanting to travel cheap, there is always hostels and for those who want to cruise: well that I don't know, but there was a line about 10 years ago based on cheap rates, with noting offered. It came and went about as fast.

Ditch the TV's. People, even poor people, have smart phones and other devices.

Ditch the free wireless internet. They can use 3G/4G for free or pay you $4 for WiFi for a day.

That's kind of what MissMaria was pointing out, though.

People would perceive a better value/quality in a hotel room for $8 a day with free wifi than with a room that's only $4 and charges you $4 for wifi.

It doesn't make a lot sense, but then people rarely do.

What you would create would be a hotbed of scum and villainy. Crack whores, pimps, serial killers, etc.

It would be convenient for the police. It would save them gas from having to run all over the place to pick these people up.

Think about how much criminals, drug abusers, dirt poor people, and welfare types would be able to save on rent by staying at Motel 4 every night. It's only $120 per month!

How in the world do you hope to have a prayer of covering even the minimal costs of this operation?
