good luck on your trip, but LA is a $300 dollar 4.5 hour flight. Whats the point in wasting your valuable vacation days being in the midwest.. ?
dude i have a legitimate extreme fear of heights.
i have flown only twice in my life (roundtrips). one to see my girlfriend in arizona (she was in college there) because i was very horny, and the other, i HAD to experience the running of the bulls.
i visited barcelona, sitges, madrid, pamplona and san sebastian. spain has some extremely beautiful women and extremely tasty tapas especially in san sebastian, that was seafood heaven. san sebastian is the best place i have ever been in my life.
that being said, viva espana. i hope they win the world cup.
torres needs to step it up a notch.
Those are all great places, at least you flew to get here! Barcelona and Spain are great places! Love living here but wont be here too much longer. Let us know how the trip goes 3 days on a train thats a LONG ride.
Some years ago, my cousin had a ticket where she flew from Northern California to NYC and took the Amtrak train back in the other direction. So perhaps that might be an option for you (one direction by train and the other by plane).
In any case for such a long trip the train is better than the bus as you can get up and walk around on the train and the train takes less time than a bus.
Ive flown to europe only because i wanted to see the running of the bulls. I just dont want to fly ever again.
i dont care about how good the food is but after my research people can sneak in beer which is what i want to do. i dont want to pay $5 for a can of beer..
I have to take my hat off to the man's priorities -
Will only fly for extreme life-saving emergencies such as "the running of the bulls" or because he's horny.
Will not fly because of the price of beer, and because he cannot sneak in beer.
I will enjoy watching american landscape along the way to new york and drink some beer while reading gates of fire and the afghan campain. heck, maybe I will stop for a couple of days and enjoy the grand canyon.
I hope you two's last hours are not falling 35,000 feet in the air and on fire.

Amtrak is absolutely better in every respect. Very uncomfortable trying to sleep on the bus. On Amtrak, you don't need to take a sleeper in order to get a much better night's sleep than on the bus. Before you go, learn to sleep on the floor on a bedroll. Trains are not very crowded at night, but can get pretty full for some short distances in the daytime.
Also, on the train, you can take along a lot more stuff, including plenty of food, so as not to have to pay on board prices for meals. An the train, you can walk around wherever you want, but on the bus you pretty well have to stay in your seat.
You can book yourself straight through on the train, and just stay on board. But it would be a nightmare on the bus without getting off for a day or two along the way.
The longest Amtrack trip I ever took was 4 hours, but I loved it. I could see myself actually enjoying a 3 day train trip, that sounds like a lot of fun. Riding the bus is ok for inter-city travel, but like jtur said, I would NOT want to be on that thing for more than a few hours.

Excuse me but there is some absolutely fantastic scenery on the way. Prairies, deserts, mountains, hills, river country and more. I would do it just for the train ride and I don't mind flying. You will fall in love with America all over again.
Brady, I loved San Sebastian too. I had to go travel out to see the Basque country and it was beautiful.
You ran with the bulls in Spain( one of the most idiotic and dangerous events known to man) but you can't fly in an airplane?
