I was planning to travel somewhere during the weekend and was so shocked to find that renting the cheapest car in Toronto during the weekend cost about $100 a day! Then I got curious and checked the rate from the same company (Hertz) but a large US city, it turns out to be $24 for the entire weekends, or about $12 a day! Guess flight ticket is not the only thing we got ripped off big time.

Does anyone know if there is any other cheaper way of renting a car here without emptying my bank account?

Last time I rented a car in Toronto, May of this year I paid 25 dollars a day for a Compact car. The week before I rented a small SUV for 105 for a 3 day weekend (35 dollars a day). My advice is to look to rent in the city proper, not at Pearson. The place I rented was close to the Eglington train subway so it was easy to get to the rental counter. Use one of the search engines and then go to the individual rental car company's web site.

Are you traveling strictly within the downtown? If so navigating a car through it is very tedious and difficult at times. Streetcars, buses, and the subway is available for fast transportation.

Sure. This will set you up for next week end.

Go back to the Hertz site where I was just offered an economy car for 2 weekend days @ $28.99/day from the Pearson Airport location.

Total approximated charge for the weekend including taxes and fees was $81.07.

Not quite as good a deal as your $24 weekend in the US, but a long way off your $100/day claim.

Are you from Toronto, by any chance?
