It's playoff time here in Texas and Texas has the best HS football in the nation. Especially in the DFW area there are some powerhouses but most regions have their bully teams.

I'm following the Port Neches-Groves Indians, an older HS with over a century of tradition. There is even a book written about their history and rich tradition.

The author even has a very interesting periodic podcast under the same name.

PN-G is currently in the Quarterfinal round of the Class 5A Div II playoffs after knocking off the #1 ranked Lake Creek squad out of Montgomery County.

Carthage, another real powerhouse in East Texas and since the start of the 21st century, arguably the most dominant team in Texas high school football. The Bulldogs have won nine state titles - the first coming in 2008.

If you are a HS football sports fan the culmination of Texas HS football will happen in Dallas at Jerry's World (AT&T Stadium) starting with 6-man Championship in Dec 13 and finishing with the 6A championships on Dec 16. That's a total of 12 games over 3 days.

Texas HS football is the best ! Who is your team or who are you interested in and following?

I find the 2A playoffs far more interesting than the 5A and 6A versions.

I love the former Midland Lee Rebels/Odessa Permian and Abilene High Eagles.

Pay attention to 3A Newton Eagles this year. They've been a powerhouse for years and are undefeated again this year..

I don't hold your same lack of enthusiasm for the larger school classification playoffs. I'm actually considering going for the 3 days of playoffs in Dallas this year. Some great athletes performing under pressure!

I'm excited to at least watch all 3 days on TV.

Ahhh yes ... Permian ! Friday Night lights. 600 miles from me. (Port Neches Groves beat them for the 1975 State 4A Championship before all the days of the fragmented classification system they have now).

We just got done watching the Midland Legacy Rebels and they got beat by Allen a few minutes ago.My dream is to go to festivities one year and watch all the state championship games.

I have been a Texas High School football fan for 20 years. I have attended every championship game for the last 12 years. Anyone who has not attended the games at Jerry World should put it on their bucket list. Those games draw more fans than 70% of the bowl games. It takes a dedicated fan to watch 3 games in one day. Being in a stadium from 10am to 10:30pm makes for a very long day. No other state comes close to championship week in Texas.

Everyone should go to a PN-G home game at least once!

I finished high school at Newton (deep east Texas) and we are advancing well into the playoffs again.

I live in Virginia now, and for the last two years I was able to find all of the TX state championship games on cable. Hopefully again this year.

Dallas South Oak Cliff is another great story!
