the worst part seems to be going to Lake Charles, so most of the Golden Triangle area will be devastated

Looks like Laura spared Beaumont almost completely and even Orange and Port Arthur got off easy. Cant say the same for Lake Charles, Sulfur, and Cameron Parish, LA.

Lake Charles reported a wind gust of 132 MPH at 2 AM local just before the storm knocked the weather station off the air. A few miles southward, Laura's eye ran right over the top of Cameron. Maximum gusts here were 127 Mph. The weather data pointed at by this URL clearly shows the passage of the eye.....

Hey guys. I'm 50 miles north of Beaumont up US Hwy 69. We stayed until yesterday afternoon then zoomed up to the Metromess for a quick shuteye then back this afternoon. Alls well here.

Rita was by far worse here. Ike so-so. This one not so bad ... few limbs down, power out 12 hours then back on a couple of hours then it went off again around 1700 hrs. Still out. I'm on 2 small window units and generator power. Apparently this power outage affected a multi county area simultaneously.

I've seen some pretty bad pics posted from east of the Sabine.

I live in Galveston Co, but I'm from Orange. 90% of my friends and family are in the Golden Triangle and SW La. I met a friend from the triangle, and we fled to Central Texas. The local news (from the Triangle) said all kind of things like 'catastrophic' and 'unsurvivable storm surge.' Reality set in when the local news said Jim Cantore was headed to Orange. Remarkably Orange was punched around, but it was nothing like Rita or Ike. A lot of friends and family still had power and nothing more than repairable roof damage or a missing carport. Now I'm going to check on relatives in Lake Charles. I'm hearing the difference between Orange and Lake Charles was huge.

Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes are devastated at this time.

Of course, Cameron Parish got the bulk of it. It's wiped out, yet again.
