For cleaning computers beyond the normal method listed here:

Please go to HiJack This and unzip the newest version into a new dedicated folder,

Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\Programs\HJT.
Unzip HijackThis into this folder. Launch Hijack This, then "Do a system scan and save log file".

This will generate a text file that will list all running processes, all applications that are loaded automatically when you start Windows, and more.
Most things are harmless and needed so don't make any changes.

Then go to ASAP and pick a site from the list on the left side. Go to the forums, sign in as a member and look for the proper security section.

You're likely to get help quicker if you start your own thread, Post a log in a new thread started by you please. Posting a HJT log in someone else's thread gets to confusing and there is a good chance it will get overlooked.

Make sure you post the contents of the text file as a copy and paste...do not attach it as an attachment.

I would read the HiJack log myself but I haven't done that in almost 18 months due to health reasons and many things have changed. Liz

Smile Or just get a mac

Or just get a mac for your next computer since there are no known spyware applications for the OS X operating system. Of course, there aren't really any viruses either at this point.

Have I mentioned lately how much I don't miss my PC and Windows.

Default All Computers can get Viruses

I believe PC's get more viruses than Mac, because the hackers want to try to take out the Giant(Microsoft) instead of picking on Mac. If you were making a virus, who would you target? PC of course because there are more of them. Contrary to popular belief Mac's have problems with viruses and spyware.Just do a google search.Using protection that is available and educating users would solve alot of the problems. I have 3 PC's at home and have always been free of viruses and spyware. I use anti-virus, anti-spyware products, don't open emails that are from someone I don't know, don't download anything that is from an unfamiliar source, don't surf porn sites. All it takes is a little common sense.

I didn't post this to start a mac versus pc argument.

I posted this to help those who may already have trouble and need help. Liz

I will say southernlady5464 saved my butt through a very bad situation a few weeks back. All of her advice allowed me to not only get back A LOT of data, but put us on the right track to staying clean.

I can never thank her enough!

Liz, I don't see any one fighting here...as always, your inestimable fount of knowledge is very helpful for those who choose to toil within the pc environment.

And actually, many do not have a choice because of the computer setup at their workplace.

You seem to be a very helpful person, thank you
