Restaurants in NYC chinatown are authentic. This one would fit right in; either the downtown Manhattan chinatown, or the one in Flushing, Queens.

My favourite restaurant is "The King and I" - Thai... Love eating mixed veggies with tofu there!

let me give another vote for abc. we love it, go pretty often.

also, we've recently started going to ha long bay for dim sum. (i may have the name wrong; it's named after the famously scenic bay in vietnam; i think ha long is right). it's in a strip mall on 34th street, on the left if you're heading north, between 58th and 62nd avenues.

as the name suggests it's originally vietnamese, but they also have dim sum and sushi. haven't tried the sushi yet, but the dim sum is great. only place to get it in tampa bay i know of aside form pf chang, whcih doesn't always have it if i remember correctly.

Dim Sum!!! Tell me please, do they bring it around on carts? That's how it's usually done in NY - you see something you find appealing and they give it to you. If you tell me that's how it's done at Ha Long Bay I'll be there this weekend!

I was looking at tbo.com restaurant code violations...... you may want to look up any chinese restaurant you are thinking about dining at before heading that way. I would say a good 60% of the restaurants which had very high CRITICAL VIOLATIONS were Chinese. I need to see if they have this in my town so I can look places up.

DOH! Nah, I never expect to see a restaurant with no violations. However, I do get concerned if it has 15+ MAJOR Violations. For giggles I should get the inspection checklist and do my own kitchen.

I love Authentic Chinese so I'm going to have to check out that chinese seafood place in St. Pete! I'm so glad this thread was started in order to find out about that place.

Kash, When I lived in Houston there was this guy on the nightly news, he was like 168 years old or something, lol, Name was/is Marvin Zindler (He's probably still alive and kicking, I think he's preserved with formaldehyde or something). He wore blue tinted glasses. He would go out to these food places and report on health violations and show it on the nightly news. Always came on at like 6 pm, right when you were having dinner! YUCK. The theme song for his segment was "Slime in the ice machine!". Now I can't get ice out of an ice machine or use a self serve soda fountain without checking out the nozzels for sliiiiime.
