Why is it every 20 handicap golfer is all of a sudden a turfgrass specialist when they review a course on GolfNow or ClickIt, etc.?

I figured I would read reviews on a course I'm playing in an upcoming event hoping to get an idea of how the greens were rolling. Well, I got quite the education.

It really blows my mind when there are so many, obviously talented, turfgrass specialists out there. I've worked on courses and I must say I know next to nothing compared to these geniuses of the greenery. Oh, fabulous fescue fans, brothers of the bermuda, beasts of the bent, please impart your wisdom on these idiots who just mow grass (poorly, so you say).

Help these misguided people make your local muni look better than Augusta or Oakmont. After all, a $17 twilight rate is way too high to pay for anything less than TPC-caliber conditions. Surely, you wouldn't hold back such knowledge and experience in the golf industry? Would you really put your office job ahead of your natural ability to make zoysia grow in your basement? I get it. You make millions of dollars per year (and drive home in your supercar to sleep with your supermodel wife)(and 300+ yard drives) and can't be bothered to share your wisdom, but please share just one little nugget of wisdom so those lowly supers can do what they're paid to do. It would take just a moment of your precious time. After all, they were probably all pulled out of the clubhouse kitchen to manage the course. It's a steep learning curve to go from curly fries to diamond stripes. I'm sure you know they're not up to the task.

Everyone's a critic, right?

LOL.

These are likely the same folks that likes to play the back tees, wait for the green to clear from 280 out (when their drive went 250, down hill), have to laser the pin and throw grass from 60 yards out after skulling their first two shots, and need to eye their 4' putts from 8 directions for a double bogey.

I'm not blaming the likes of Day and Speith. Their skills are second to none and they are working. But their slow play doesn't help when people watch them and decide to emulate them on the course.

So much of slow play is also due to carts and "stay near the cart path" rules.

One of the great things about playing the name courses in Scotland (and many private clubs in the US) is that you have to hire a caddy, who's job it is is to keep the game moving. As busy as it is, rounds are 3.5 hours on the Old Course (and technically you need to be at least a 15 handicap to be on the better courses).
