A couple of questions for people whom watch or follow Rugby, as I have never been to a single Rugby match before and neither my country has a tradition of Rugby:
1) Where packed tournaments like Rugby World Cup are in question, is injuries a very serious issue? As in it takes time for the players to recover? If so, does the idea of packed back-to-back tournament schedule does harm to Rugby players?
2) Reference to question 2, does shorter formats like Rugby Sevens and Nines make it less likely for injuries?
3) Why has Rugby not spread in popularity to other countries the way Association Football/Soccer has? Rugby tends to be most popular in non-UK countries like Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, all former British colonies.
4) Is either Rugby Union or Rugby League popular in Ireland (both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland), and Scotland? I already know Rugby has a stronghold in Wales (even more than Soccer) and England.
I suppose that is one thing that held in back, was until 1995 rugby union was an amateur sport.
Even in Australia, Rugby Union is still a rather minor sport mostly played by the private school and university students, in two states.
I grew up QLD, and also attended a private school, so I grew up playing the game. However I would bet the majority of Aussie would have absolutely no idea the rugby world cup is currently on. It might get a bit more publicity after the big two football codes (AFL and Rugby League) hold there grand finals on the weekend.
Interestingly if wikipedia is correct, there are almost twice as many registered Rugby Union Players in the Republic of Ireland than in Australia.

Been following the Rugby World Cup, a lot of injuries.
Does Sevens tend to have less injuries if Sevens is held in a World Cup format?
