So tonight, the first round playoffs begin. I'll be watching Hitchcock-Tulare against Faulkton in Hitchcock. They played the season opener, and HT beat them badly, but the word is they weren't at full strength. Go Pats!
Other local teams (to me) include Huron at Aberdeen Central, Chester at Wessington Springs-Woonsocket, and Sanborn Central playing Dell Rapids St. Mary's. Hitchcock Tulare and Dell Rapids squared off last year, in one of the most exciting games I've ever seen. DR lost some kids though, but should be a tough test for Sanborn. Huron will have a very tough time with #1 Aberdeen Central. I don't know anything about Chester, but WWS is playing pretty good to finish out the year, having shocked Sanborn Central last week.
I'd be interested to see what games everyone will be watching.
I will be cheering on Lead/Deadwood at St. Thomas Moore Rapid tonight. My son (5'10" def. tackle) has got the heart of a lion and is usually 20+lb lighter his opponents this yr. - he still manages quite well with big pressure on the QB and quick ankle grabs on the RB creating havoc when he can. Our last match-up with STM was an unfortunate one , but our kids seem fired up and our much smaller team (size and numbers) will be giving it their best.. GO DIGGERS!
What was the score, and what is your record? If I remember right St. Thomas is a power or has been for a few years. And this is a 1 versus 4 so they'll have their work cut out for them. Good luck to them, I'll be pulling for 'em.
If my memory serves me right we are 3W 5L - one loss was to Bennett County in 2nd OT. Don't recall the past STM scores (wasn't pretty though). We had a tough go with injuries this yr. with several of our bigger linemen absent most of the year - and our shrinking enrollment puts us just above the B cusp. Anyhow I love watching regardless - I know a good # of the kids and their parents, that for me makes it more fun than NFL. Thanks for the support Leroy!!
Wow, Washington is rolling over Douglas with six minutes in the first quarter. Whoever played Brookings walloped them pretty good as well.
