I've read through some of the threads and didn't see one that was recent that addressed my question. My extended family (my mom, myself, my 7 year old, my ex-daughter-in-law, and my 4 year old grandson) are moving to SC this summer and the Greenville County area was recommended for a few reasons. My daughter is biracial (I'm white and her father is black, she appears to be black to the world) and she is at the very high-end of the Autism Spectrum Disorder scale. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on how well she will fit in to the area being biracial and if the schools are well-equipped to handle students with education plans. We are looking at Simpsonville specifically, but anywhere in the county would be open to us.

Thanks!
Greenville is heavily transplanted and is a county of over 500k people. Many biracial kids here along with many other backgrounds. My children are biracial and went to school in Simpsonville. No issues.
Thank you! At first I heard some negative things about SC and racism, but the more I dig, the more positive things that I hear. I want the advantages of "small town" living and this area of SC looks like it will have what we are looking for.

Greenville "County", SC is the most populous county in the state - additionally, I'm not sure what your idea of "small town" living but it's not Simpsonville! LOTS of people, traffic, and congested interstates (BTW, the interstates in SC SUCK compared to anything in AZ - just freaking awful - trash everywhere/overgrown weeds/terrible DANGEROUS interchanges)
One might experience "small town" living in Fountain Inn/SW Greenville CO or the Cleveland/Slater-Marietta/Blue Ridge areas
The Upstate of SC is MUCH different than the Phoenix metro - forget about wide-open spaces - learn to love trees/forests - LOTS of forests

It's not exactly "small town” living. It's most populated county and metro area in South Carolina.
I agree with the good Dr.The upstate is getting packed, look for an area a little further out for "small town" feel.
I think small town SC is less racist than large urban north eastern cities. There sure a lot more people moving here than are leaving. That has to tell you something!
Simponsville seems like small town living to me. There is some traffic during rush hour.
