I really didn't feel like doing anything tonight so I played around with it for a while. I was also having fun touring all the mansions down here and in L.A. Anybody else do this?
well...er...YEAH !!! Actually have photos so close the day I moved in to my house that we can see who is carrying what !!! It is good for looking at real estate... neighboring properties, proximity to major roads as the crow flies ( or sound travels) area ground water etc...
I like looking at the random amorphous blob that is Scranton from far, far away and wishing that I could actually pick out a NEIGHBORHOOD, much less a car in a driveway as you can with the clarity in other nearby areas, especially North Jersey. Stupid Google! Why does everyone hate Scranton so much? LOL! If it's good enough for Dwight from "The Office", then it's good enough for me!
I love Google.earth..but I have dial-up where I am because I'm still too far out from town to get cable or DSL But when I get the opportunity, I love to scan the planet. That's how those amateurs watching China found that exact model of the Chinese/Indian border in scale and proved that China makes models of future war zones to practice!
I also liked looking at Disneyland in Japan up close. Interesting stuff.
LOL I was just using that yesterday and thought about posting it for others who didn't know about it. I just love it but my neighborhood grid is cloudy so I can't check out my area. The mountains are very neat except where you can see the areas where they cut all the trees down for resale. Thank you Bowater Speaking of China the areas are just jam packed! Check out Japan (Disneyland is great! Momark) and Taiwan and you will never complain about too close neighbors again lol Also, you can see if that "beach" house you saw on the internet is really on the beach. Came in handy for us last summer.

That is actually part of the fun of Earth; you get to see how the other half lives. We pass by roads that are blocked by steel gates and the houses are too far to see from the road. With Earth; we can now 'see' how those hidden others live.
I also love the bottom right header of Earth. It shows imagery date, longitude and latitude, and elevation and eye altitude. Elevation is an extremely useful tool if you are shopping for real estate. You can see which way the water runs, or if you live in the flood plane, or how much drop your new back yard would have. You can 'see' how hard the hike would be up any mountain without going there. By the way, to the best of my knowledge, their elevation is extremely accurate. From my surveyor's map of our house it states that we are at 1345 feet above sea level and that is exactly what Earth tells us.
You can use Earth to tell you how far you will travel of how big your neighbor's house is. You can 'see' how long the lake is that you are planning on visiting. They have the little tool on the top header (picture of the yard stick). On there you can measure anything in everything from inches, to feet, to miles, to meters and kilometers. If you want to know how far you walk into work from the parking lot; you can figure it out with Earth.
There is something that I would like somebody to tell me. How do we save the image and can we use that image or is it protected by copyright? So far I do not think I have seen any Earth pictures on CD. I would love to do that; if it was legally acceptable. It would be a great tool to show others what we are talking about. Earth does have a 'save', but I have no idea what happens after I hit save.
IDK. Lackawanna seems like one of the safest counties in Pennsylvania, rivaling CENTRE county which is one of the safest in the country.
