Hi there,

I would like to ask for a recommendation for a good hotel near San Jose convention. We will be there a weekend next month. I need to be at the convention but don't need a car. So, my husband will drop me off at the San Jose convention on his way to San Francisco to see his friend during the day. So, we won't need two cars. I found this new hotel and wonder whether it is in a good and safe area. If not, any other good hotel in San Jose area you would recommend. Thank you.

Well, its quite a distance from the SJ Convention Center, though you could take the VTA Light Rail to downtown.

That said, you're better off trying to stay at a hotel right by the Convention Center, such as the Marriott (connects right into it), Hilton, Fairmont, Hyatt Place. Unless you have a budget limitation that the downtown hotels exceed.

Your best bet would be using Yelp and looking at hotel reviews. With that said, there are lots of hotels downtown that would be much more convenient than the one you're looking at. That one really isn't anywhere near downtown. If you stay downtown, everything is walking distance. SJ's downtown area is mostly safe overall and is compact so it's easy to get around without a car.

Don't go to So. San Jose, it's too far. Consider hotels in the downtown core, there are cheaper options than Fairmont or Mariott, such as Hyatt Place and Four Points by Sheraton.

I run next in front of that hotel all the time. It not close to the convention. You way out there. It looks close on the map, but You have to take the traffic into consideration. Let me tell ya as an outsider, traffic can be chaotic, you need a lot of time. Not to mention, getting into San Fran is pure choas. Your dealing with a couple million people all needing to get to the same places. Use Uber and you will be golden

As far as that hotel. Its stands alone next to all the restaurants and shopping centers. I was thinking of putting my parents in there when they visit me. They just renovated and remodeled it the past year. Its down the street from a large strip mall type area. Tons of commercial shopping Very close to The West Field mall. There is also a nice trail across the street to get exercise. . The electric train is too far away to use it where your at. You will prolly bump into some homeless folks, but I would say its a decent side of town. More commercial and busy if anything. I wouldnt run there every day If I didn't feel safe and trust me, there are plenty of places in San Jose that give me the creeps.
