Hello all,
My husband is finishing up tech school and received his orders for Travis AFB. We'll be renting until we get base housing but I have no idea where to move. From other threads posted on this website I figure Vacaville is a better place to live but are there any apartment complex recommendations?? Ive been on every apartment search website and I'm still undecided and confused, Im from washington dc so this whole search thing has to be done by proxy which is the scariest part LOL. I would appreciate any help I can get.

Thank you,
Proud AF wife

Any chance the Air Force would have recommended places? I know when my cousin was in the Navy they did.

Stay off any apartments on: Alamo Drive, Aegean Way, Elmira Road, Burton drive, Shasta Drive, Brown Street and Markham Ave. Bad areas. hear these on the police scanner daily.
Peabody /Beelard Drive, Marshall drive, and Sara court and Allison are better areas. Farmington Drive is ok on alamo.

my husband and i are also moving to travis afb in 3 weeks from germany. I would like to know the difference between base housing and privatized housing? which is better? is privatized housing also on base? we do not want to rent or buy a house right now, but if we cannot get onto base or privatize housing then we really have no choice. we have 2 toddlers so a newer home with a yard and nearby parks is ideal.

I hate it when people say stay away from certain places because of crime. To be honest there is crime everywhere. You have to be careful of your surroundings anywhere that you live. I have lived in Vacaville, off of Alamo and Leisure Town road...my husband and I rented a house there. It was nice. We loved our neighbors...We now live in the Lawler Ranch area...which is in Suisun City...its a great neighborhood. When we lived on base for a year...that was our worst time..and you would consider that to be better. But base housing at Travis is great I must admit.
