Pretty scary.

They say that there's anywhere from 25 to 50 serial killers active at any one time in this country.

Two more shootings have been linked to a possible California serial killer, including one that occurred in the Bay Area last year.

Stockton detectives have now tied seven shootings — six of them fatal — to a single individual. They believe the person is targeting individuals who are walking alone on dark, quiet streets. Last week, Stockton police announced five murders committed from July to September were carried out by the same person; on Monday night, they confirmed two more shootings in 2021.

That is scary... but while it's always good to be aware, I choose not to let these things frighten me. Literally anyone can be the victim of a violent crime, whether you're walking alone at night or driving with friends in daytime. I just do my thing regardless, and hope the authorities do their job. I know, wishful thinking on that last part!

From my perspective, there’s plenty more for Stockton to be concerned about than a possible serial killer i.e. I don’t understand the draw/fascination to serial killers (or the media attention/fear) by comparison to violent-crime/homicide rates, as a whole.

In other words, it shouldn’t make a difference relative to what one should already be practicing regarding their personal safety anyway - particularly at night in Stockton.
