San Francisco hands down. There's nowhere else like The City. Everyone has good points and each city has it's ups and downs but at the end of the day, most people want to vacation or live here. You're very central in the sense that you are just hours away from mostly everything.

We have the beaches, museums, shopping, restaurants, culture, opera house, site seeing, etc. Basically we have it ALL in one location. You can raise your family while still having access to live your life and not having to choose one over the other like most other cities. We have neighborhoods that feels like a small town in itself and you can experience all different types of cultures and flavors such as Japan Town, China Town, Mission, The Castro.

If you want a nightlife, hang out downtown and go to the clubs or into the Mission or Marina for good food. If you want something quieter, head down to the beaches or Crissy Field. Tired of San Francisco? Feel free to drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and head down to Sausalito for some good food and ferry there and back if you wish so. I lived in Brentwood for a year and was yanking my hairs off of my head because I was so bored. Even a lot of friends that I talk to who live outside San Francisco always make plans to come here for a day trip just to hang out.

There's just too much to say about San Francisco...

Oh, wait. He can vote "other". Whoop whoop.

Pleasanton, small town, hometown feel. Safe, great schools and family oriented.

I voted for San Francisco as well. But really, most of these cities are really nice. Walnut Creek is my hometown, and I love it. And I love all the Marin County towns so much. I would actually live in any of them over SF, but SF is my favorite city for so many reasons. It's just more of the kind of city I love to spend the day in than deal with on a daily basis living there.

Mill Valley has my vote as well. I think this poll would be more interesting without SF as a choice.

I really don't have one. I grew up in San Francisco and have spent the past 20+ years in Fremont. The Bay Area in general has just gotten too over populated and over priced. I did pick Sausalito because it is the city I got married in, on the beach, then went to the Marine Mammal Center afterwards before a great view with lunch on Bridgeway before running away to Point Arena for honeymoon. There are certain parts of the Bay Area that I still like that, but prefer to move out of this area asap.

So why am I still here then? Its where the job is, I made a major career change not so long ago, it is also where the wife receives her medical care as she works through some of life's challenges. So while I prefer to not be here, I also face the reality that I need to be for a while, and make the best of it.

Hard to believe San Jose was omitted, considering it's the LARGEST city in the Bay Area! Also should have included Santa Cruz, in my opinion.

I ended up choosing Sausalito kind of randomly, because it's probably where I'd live if money and commute (to work) weren't an issue... sort of a dream location, due to its beautiful scenery, weather, small-town feel, and proximity to both SF and the more isolated north bay. More practically, I like San Mateo (where I grew up), Santa Cruz, Berkeley, San Francisco of course, Half Moon Bay, and Pacifica. Clearly I like the ocean.

You left out my favorite, Lafayette. I was born in SF, and have lived in San Bruno, Lafayette, Union City, Oakland and Castro Valley (not a city) and am familiar with all of those on the list with 40 years in the Bay Area. Lafayette is my favorite, due to the mild climate, low crime, somewhat rural areas, location close to parks like the Lafayette reservoir, Briones and Tilden, and great schools.

Pleasanton... summertime is beautiful there

wish I could move there... but a house that goes for $200,000 here in vegas goes for $900,000 in Pleasanton nowadays.... I missed my boat about 7 years ago when the prices were still reasonable

Santa Rosa is my second choice... mainly because I have a lot of good memories smoking weed there 10-15 years ago
