What's the best winery in the region to tour with a family? I have my parents and my young kids, so it needs to have a little bit of something for everyone.

Thanks in advance

We love Temecula's Mount Palomar. It has food, music, and a nice outdoor area where children are welcome. We used to hit multiple wineries - but we like this one so much, we just stay there for the day.

If we ever get back to that part of the country we will remember this. I thought the OP was referring to the San Diego area, but wasn't sure.

What's the deal with these wineries charging for tasters? I recall in the New York Lake George region not long ago the tasting was free, and fun.

About a year ago, a lot of the Temecula-area wineries cracked down on 20-somethings who rent stretch limos, pile into tasting rooms to chug as much wine as they can and generally treat the experience like happy hour at the Crazy Burro. I say nothing beats Napa/Sonoma for a great wine-tasting experience. Temecula -- meh, nice and close but not the best winery experience, IMHO.

thanks guys. I wasn't too concerned about the location - San Diego or Temecula - its not that far a drive - and I live near Poway anyway. Maybe I'll try out that Temecula location.

I'll second Mt. Palomar....but the kids might also enjoy Longshadow Ranch which is right down the street. They have an outdoor tasting bar and draft horses and on some afternoons and evenings they also have live music. Very family friendly and fun
