Soooo I’m in a very tight pinch and due to an injury that won’t heal I can’t work construction. I finally got an mri but I don’t even have to see the specialist to know that if my shoulder hasn’t healed in 2 months that I still have months of recovery ahead of me.

I’m trying my best to keep my head together but it’s proving difficult. I cant do resturant work either, too much reaching over head whether it’s dishes or boxes, I actually hurt it again working at tender greens so I have to try and find something else.

I’ve been turned down everywhere because I have very little retail and sales expierences , Trader Joe’s won’t even hire me so I’m kind of at a loss , even receptionsit or sales jobs at construction companies won’t consider me. I have nowhere to stay and no one to really help me out so I gotta make the best of what little I’ve got.

I also heard they outlawed sleeping in your car in San Diego so the safe parking program I was in before I found a place is at full capacity. I guess there’s always Torrey pines and just using stealth but I don’t like living on edge like that.

I wouldn’t get much for disability because of my Ssdi contributions because I haven’t even lived here a year yet and I haven’t looked into unemployment yet.

Kinda not sure what to do now. I’m sure a lot of San diegians will just tell me to **** off because I’m “apart of the problem” now.

I got hurt outside of work so no WC. I had to defend myself in a fight after 200$ of my tools where stolen. I’ve had problems with my shoulder before and rolling around on concrete sent it way over the edge. Incase anyone’s wondering.

If you hurt it again at Tender Greens you may still be eligible for work comp. While the majority of any permanent disability (if any) will be due to your fight, they would still pay your medical and you might be eligible for a job voucher of up to $6,000 to use for retraining.

Honestly, in SD you are competing with experienced people for entry level jobs. It's become too expensive here to locate jobs like call centers, B2B sales and admin stuff, that was traditionally the mainstay of entry-level white collar work. Now those jobs are selling SAAS software or doing tech support and they are hard to get if you don't have some sort of angle. Phoenix and Vegas, that is where you find these entry level white collar, retail, service type jobs. Take a look at Geico, Intuit, Petco and the recruiting firms like Robert Half, Kelly Services etc.

Jewish Family Services operates three secured safe parking lots seven nights per week. They are on Balboa Avenue, Aero Drive, and Mission Village Drive. Call (858) 637-3373 to enroll.

I seem to remember that you are prior military.

If so, and assuming you left the service in good standing, you may want to check out entry level civil service jobs, both here in San Diego and in/near the other cities you are considering moving to. As prior enlisted, you may get a *bit* of preference when you apply for entry level civil service jobs, assuming, of course, you have the basic skills required for the job and you can pass the screening requirements.

Focus on GS-1 and GS-2 level jobs, which are true entry level jobs. Commissary retail jobs and general clerical positions might be a possibility.

Use the USA Jobs site to check out current openings: https://www.usajobs.gov/

A quick search shows, for example, that there is a current opening for a part-time store associate in the commissary in Imperial Beach.

The hiring process may not be quick, though.

Getting any type of a Federal job these days is virtually impossible unless you know someone, and that goes for all grades. I have a co worker who is a disabled veteran with reinstatement eligibility, and he's getting nowhere, and he's been trying for almost five years. Plus, there are hundreds of applicants for each job.

That's odd. My husband is in charge of hiring for a division of a Federal service facility here in San Diego and he's hiring people weekly, including entry level clerical jobs (he just hired two new administration assistants in his division last week). He can't get enough people to fill available jobs right now, and that's just for his division.

Perhaps have your friend contact me and I can put him in touch with my husband.

Aside from that, the poster asked where to look for jobs. I gave him a suggestion. I didn't say he was guaranteed a job, but at least I gave him a suggestion. And, the only sure way NOT to get a job is to not apply at all, which I guess is your advice to him.

OK, I'm out of here. I'm sick of offering suggestions and then being blasted for doing so. Bye everyone!

Dealing with a rotator cuff injury as I write this. It has been several weeks now. I have weakness in my arm and leg from it. Somewhat debilitating to say the least. Moving at 1/2 speed. I can't imagine looking for a job in this shape.

Good Luck with your search.

My friend is looking for an HR position, since he used to work in HR. I have reinstatement eligibility myself, and tried to get back in few years ago, but had no luck.

I can commiserate with the OP. My fiance works construction, and has been out of work since 9-12-19 after a coworker pushed him off a deck they were building. There were no safety railings, and my fiance fell flat on his back. He's been in pain ever since. Boss didn't even scold the coworker for jumping him; the guy still has a job. We're waiting on the worker's comp to be approved, if it is. He's also applying for temporary disability this week. It has been very trying lately, money-wise. We were all set to move to CA but our plans are shelved till next month, at least. His cousin in Palm Springs is allowing us to stay with her, rent free, until we get ourselves situated.
