Seems like it was finished faster than most projects. I'm anxious to see it. Anyone heading out for the big event?

I will be there. I've always thought Main Plaza was the heart of SA. The Riverwalk or Rivercenter Mall and the Alamo are suburbs. I know the Alamo was there first, but remeber it was relegated as a hay barn for a while before the daughters snapped to thier heritage.

LOL!

I'd love to see the rest of the area spruced up, making Main Plaza once again the real heart of SA.

Alas we will likely miss the opening, as we're going to celebrate Songkran (Thai Water Festival) that day. We'll have to head over to check it out later in the week.

Interesting timing, eh? The city giveth a park-like space downtown (Main Plaza) just as it begins whispering about taking some of another one away (Hemisfair).

My thoughts too, but see my update in that thread, may not be so bad as I thought.

Default The Litter Box

You can chalk Main Plaza up as another in a long line of San Antonio flops. Who decided on all this gravel instead of grass? Loose gravel does not mix with high heels, dress shoes, or flip flops! I understand it is suppose to save water, but it is a park...it is suppose to be an oasis in a city of concrete. All of the gravel and flagstone heats up..and makes the park just as hot as the rest of down town. Compounded with the 6 large trees that will be cut down...there will be no ample shade there for the next 10 years.

Actually, it's a plaza, not a park. While I personally would like a little more green, just about every plaza I've seen in major cities around the world are similar to this one at least in concept.

If you want a park, head a few blocks down to HemisFair park. Lots of green, shade, and fountains.
