Hiya,

My husband and I currently live in Lebanon, OR and my husband just got a new job in Albany. We like Lebanon but it is a tad too provincial for us and we are thinking about moving to Salem. We prefer older houses that we can fix up since we both work in construction. Can we find a historic home in Salem in a friendly neighborhood with an easy commute to Albany?

We thought about just moving to Albany but we like Salem better for a variety of reasons. We loved Silverton but don't think he could get steady work there. (He's a cabinet maker)

The historic homes are all on the east side of the river around the downtown core. It would probably take 30-40 minutes or so to get to Albany from there, depending on where in Albany and traffic. The historic neighborhoods are Fairmount, Bush Park/Gaity Hill, Grant, Englewood, Court-Chemeketa, Richmond and Highland.

Not really. There are some expensive Historic homes, but not as many as people think.
