Hello all, I have been looking for information and have yet to find the answers I seek, so here goes...I am a pediatric RN in Cincinnati, OH and looking to relocate to Richmond in July of 2011 to attend VCU's graduate nursing program. I see that VCU and Children's Hospital have combined to become Children's Hospital of Richmond, which I think is great and will eventually provide excellent opportunities in the future.

However, I wanted to know if anyone was aware of VCU's starting RN pay, even their new grad starting pay would give me some ball park figures. I have family in Fredericksburg, so I'm not completely green to the area. I think its a beautiful place, but much like Cincy, has it's rough spots.

Also, is there anyone that recently relocated that can tell me how they like it? My husband and I am early 30's, no kids.

Thanks!

I grew up in Cincinnati also (Anderson) and moved here 4 years ago and also work at VCU Hospital currently. I don't know about the nursing wages and haven't been to Children's Hospital of Richmond, but I know it's not near VCU/MCV campus like UC/Cincy Childrens. VCU/MCV has all the peds subspecialties and general peds though. Most Cincinnatians aren't aware of how great (on a national level) Cincy children's hospital is. You might be able to call the HR people at VCU and get the wage info..

Richmond has goods and bads. It is primarily "urban". I am in your same age demographic and live in Chesterfield (south of Richmond city). It's pretty nice there..I've posted other threads about Chesterfield specifically. We will be relocating ourselves soon due to job changes. DM me with any specific questions! Go Reds! Let me know if you want to buy a nice house in chesterfield also!!

Thanks so much for replying. Trust me, I know exactly how good CCHMC is on a national level...it's the one thing that makes this decision so hard! Plus, I work in a specialty area and learn something new each day...so I'm having an internal battle. I grew up here and left after high school only to return, get my nursing degree and start working at Children's. But's it's time to move on. As great as CCHMC is, Ohio does not utilize their Nurse Practitioners to their full potential and they are not utilized at all in my specialty area.

I like that Richmond is urban, Cincinnati is too honestly. I will be visiting in August to begin looking around. I don't think we will buy a house our first year there...we'll still be trying to get or bearing.

Thanks again!
