I am considering moving to Lake Tahoe this fall. I am looking at South Lake Tahoe/Stateline and Incline Village/Kings Beach. Which of these areas are more conservative versus more liberal? Or are they all moderate?

Also, does anyone know any good churches around Tahoe?

Your questions are a bit too subjective. Moderate to one is radical to another, and what constitutes a 'good' church?

It might be possible to view voting history for the districts you are interested in, try the appropriate election board. That's the only way you'll get facts vs. someones subjective opinion on how conservative/liberal the area is.. Seeing how people vote is usually fairly telling.

As far as churches, you might want to be more specific regarding type/denomination otherwise someone might suggest the church of the sub-genius ;-)

Having recently visited the Tahoe area in anticipation of moving, I would suggest that you also visit. There is a BIG difference between North (Incline Village/Kings Beach) and South Tahoe (Stateline Kingsbury). I talked to real estate agent about this, but I had to see it for myself and having done so, I can say she was totally right. Her opinion? People that can afford it live in Incline Village. Obviously there are exceptions to this rule!! But hey, Larry Ellison, the billionaire who just bought 98 percent of a Hawaiian island is building in Incline Village. Ie, a guy who can live anywhere on earth he wants thinks chose Incline Village.

NV is not packed with churches, and there are only a handful as far as I could tell in Incline Village but if you live in Incline Village you can get to Reno easily which expands your options (about 40 min. to the center of Reno in the summer). Not greatly, because it's not the Bible belt. If you live in South Tahoe you can go over the mountain to Carson City or Minden which expands your options.

In my experience it definitely seems very liberal. A lot of hippies and marijuana. I'm sure there are churches on all sides, and the people will be accepting.

South Shore and North Shore are very different. You must elaborate on what you are looking for. Tahoe is known for being free environmental loving people. The two sides (NV & CA) are different not only in population density but also demographics. There are churches in both sides, but again, you must elaborate so we can give you proper info.

BTW-Lived in So. Shore and worked in So. and No. Shore

We have had a condo in Incline since '95. Use it mainly in the summer. The roads can be dicey in the winter Nice and quiet but somewhat expensive especially the gas but you can jump over the hill (Mt Rose) to Carson city to Costco/Target etc. Food selection some what limited ie: not a San Francisco. Lots of wildlife although bears can be problem regarding garbage. You have to be careful with garbage disposal. Love the beach. Good hiking and biking in the summer and skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. Incline has an outstanding fireworks show. There is a new church at corner of Country Club/Hiway 28. FWIW Nevada is a "Shall issue" state and does issue CCW to out of state residents so Cali residents can carry in Nevada. In Incline crime is extermely low as to be almost non-existent. The big potential problem is fire since the lake basin hasn't burned in years although since the Angora fire there is a basin wide program to clean up the dead trees and assorted fuel sources. Hope this info helps

At South Lake Tahoe most people worship at Harrah's.

Also most of SLT is in California, so while you have Prop 13 to save on property tax you pay huge income taxes. And like someone else said you can't carry a gun in Cali. Like you need a gun in Tahoe... LOL

Also, did you know it SNOWS in Tahoe? With snow comes people from Cali who can't drive in the snow, who then run into your car, or someone elses or just simply block the road when they try to take a 15 mph icy slanting curve in the road at 65 because they are in a big darn hurry. This is great if you own a tow truck, but is really dangerous the rest of the time.

Personally I preferred living in Carson City. You are 20 minutes from the lake or skiing and you don't have to shovel snow all winter.

A slightly different approach –
I’m living in the bay area currently, this fall I'm moving to the Lake Tahoe area and I'm not sure if I should move to the north or south side. I will most likely end up in either Incline Village or Stateline (no state income tax) I have spent time in both and both are beautiful locations. I guess it comes down to (1) I’m a squaw skier (Squaw rocks!) currently, Heavenly has great bump runs but otherwise … (2) I’m a single guy and I will be looking for a girlfriend which I think I can find a lot easier in South Lake Tahoe. Also the towns on the north side seem … slow… They’re beautiful locations but I need more than 3 women to choose from. South Lake Tahoe seems to have quite a bit to offer as far as variety of stores, bars, singles ….
As far as work, I work from home so it’s not a concern for me.
Any input is greatly appreciated / thank you for the help.

Based off what your own words have said : If you are a Squaw skier you will have to live in Incline. Reason being : 1) Driving Hwy 28 to go to Squaw sucks in the winter 2) Hwy 89 on So. Shore is closed. Unless you have a boat to take you to Sunnyside, you drive 28. I worked for Pro Tow Towing off Kingsbury for So. and No. Shore for 2 years and know the drive and mortality rate. Look in to share situations with other snow birds. Heavenly has some bumps like Little Dipper under the chair, Waterfall on a good day, or The Face when they don't groom, but otherwise I recommend...back terrain like Killebrew and skiing to the base of Kingsbury in the valley with a car waiting to drive you up to Boulder or Stagecoach. Demographically, there are more people and choices of women (as you stated) on South Shore.

I appreciate the advise, esp on HYW 28 (yikes). I think it's going to be Incline to start, I will see how the first year is and go from there. Reno is only 30 miles so I suspect (maybe I'm wrong) I could meet women from there? Plus I need acess to Reno's airport and it's a lot closer to Incline.
Thanks again!
