who do you recommend and why for gutter guards or gutter protection in this area? We need something really bad and can't wait until next downpour as our house gets lots of debris from woods. many thanks, as usual from this new resident.

Alcoa Leaf Relief installs on your existing gutters and cannot be seen from the ground. This product allows water to enter the gutter but screens debris so the downspouts run free. Any debris that remains on top dries and the wind blows it away.

Triangle Gutter Guards. We've known Bill the owner forever and he is fabulous. He takes care of our house and many of our neighbors.

Pay to have them cleaned twice a year for life; it will be cheaper.

What is the expected cost to have gutters cleaned on a regular size house (approx 200 sq ft worth of gutters)?

"Regular size" is subjective and part of town might matter but most likely not more than $75.

I think we paid a neighborhood handyman $45 to clean our last year...not sure of the sq ft, though

Thanks. That's why I gave the approx length of gutters (200 ft) -- to provide some context on size.
