Although it's not right close to Butner... we lived at "Alexan Place" at South Square while looking for a house in Durham County/ when we first moved to NC from FL. It's probably a 40 minute reverse-commute Alexan to Butner in the mornings (you'[d be driving north/northeast while others drive south)... I think they have 1BR all the way up to 3BR apts... minimum lease I think is 6 mos. ...but it might take you that long to settle on a house...even 'asap'. We loved this place- quiet ./ pet friendly/ well-maintained
Also if your job is in Butner, you might look for (if a rural-ish area could suit you) a home in
N. Durham/Bahama/Rougemont (all in Durham County) ...the latter two being almost due-west of Butner/accessible via lightly-traveled country road. Maybe a 15/25 minute commute either way.

I used to work in Butner and lived in NW Raleigh. It was a 40 minut3e commute (and a beautiful commute at that). SO I think you could also look in several different areas.
