When launched, the Morrisville Smart Shuttle Service will provide residents, commuters, and visitors free, on-demand transit throughout the Town of Morrisville. The service starts Saturday, October 2, 2021.
The service will connect residents with 14 locations in Morrisville, called nodes. An additional node is located at the Regional Transit Center near RTP. A Morrisville Smart Shuttle rider can schedule their pick-up and drop-off from their computer or smartphone. There is no cost to use this shuttle service. Shuttles will run seven (7) days a week. Select stops will connect to GoCary and GoTriangle transits. The Morrisville Smart Shuttle vehicles will be provided by the GoCary, the transit provider for the Town of Cary. The Morrisville Smart Shuttle mobile app and scheduling technology are powered by Via.
It'll be interesting to see how this turns out - smaller cities/towns are experimenting with transit services like this instead of fixed route service but it seems that most of the time, it's just inefficient and not cost effective.
