Anyone know a local feed supply store where i can get any of these:
Protein-based fertilizers like corn meal, alfalfa meal, coffee grounds, soy meal, cottonseed meal, sorghum
meal
IMO don't waste your time or money IMO. I tried it in the past and did not have much luck.
First you need a solid hunk of true top soil (nice and black not this rocky clay stuff we have). I have ordered lots of cubic yds of top soil and spread it around my yard over several years. I've put down a solid 3-4" of good quality top soil. This is BY FAR the most important part of having a solid green healthy lawn!!
Plant grass appropriate for your lawn's sun exposure (lots of shade = fescue, lots of sun = bermuda or zoysia or centipede).
Use a cheap 10-10-10 product when the leaves start turning yellow. User a pre-emergent in the spring. If you aren't getting many weeds HAND PULL them. Don't cut them with a mower. It will just cause them to spread.
GCM used to be available at the Louisburg Co-Op. I have purchased it there in the past. But like I said don't waste your money. Spend all your time and effort on getting 3-4" of black top soil and the rest will be easy.
