In our 6 weeks here we've decided Charley's is the best on-the-water place in PG because of the live music. The view is great and the food there is pretty decent too. Laishley's has a nice view of north of the bridge as it's on the second level but the bridge blocks the rest of Charlotte Harbor. Harpoon Harry's at Fisherman's Village has a nice view but the food is maybe average.

To the OP - we've been wondering since we've been here if PG makes it hard on businesses here. It seems like there should be more commerce. My SO noticed the lack of fast food places along Rt 41 in PG and compared that to certain suburbs around Chicago. They just don't want them. We were thinking maybe PG was the same.

If you have a boat you want to dock in the back yard, PG is tough to beat. If you're not a boater, then you probably don't see a lot in what PG has to offer. But don't take this as coming from a well educated resident. As I said, we've only been her 6 weeks, 7 if you include our trip here in June to get a feeling for the place.

I find this thread to be a little strange....what exactly is it the merchants expect the city to do?

As far as fast food the other side of the bridge is close enough, I like that the merchants and restaurants are both upscale.

I personally like the lack of fast food restaurants here in PG. So many areas are clustered with crap places that never last long. As far as things to do in PG there are plenty that are not boating

Exactly. Looking at a map and homes online can't possibly give a true picture to anyone who hasn't spent time in the area.

Even each city (especially Punta Gorda) has very different style neighborhoods. Deep Creek is very different from Punta Gorda Isles, for example, but both are in Punta Gorda.

There was a good fast food like restaurant in downtown Punta Gorda called Big D's. They always seem to do good business but apparently they were on a three year reduced lease. When the rent went up they had to close.

The place I thing has the best food with a water view in PG is the roof top at the Wyvern.

Deep Creek is not in the city of Punta Gorda. It is one of those deals where the post office allows Deep Creek to use a PG mailing address but all services are provided by Charlotte County and taxes go to Charlotte County.
