A bit of both. Some have an agenda, some just want to be big in their own minds.

I will say this.....sometimes it ain't leaks. Sometimes there's a fly on the wall. The whole White House needs to be 'scrubbed' if you get my drift.

Many of them leak to feel special, like they know something you don't. Many celebrity tattletales are like this. At least the National Enquirer pays them. You know people like this I'm sure. They are called gossips.

I have served under Presidents from President Carter to President Obama and some were good some not so good. But they were always the president; like them, their policies, and appointees or not. They were elected by the people. and deserve the obedience to which I had sworn and in support of the Constitution.

I know there were many ways any government employee could go if a policy or order was against the law, illegal, against policy, etc: (1) resign in protest. Explain reasons why. Then and only then call reporters and publish. write a book. whatever (2) call GAO, Inspector Generals galore, and the other government watch dogs established to investigate. (3) Write a letter to Congresspersons, Senators, or committee chairs. (4) avail self of any whistle blower act appropriate

That is at least 4 legal and right ways to step forward and put the word out. But if you were to do any of them, a complaint would have to be based upon statutory errors and facts not opinion or disagreement.

That is the second problem with these villains. Not only are they not taking advantage of legal and straight to the source ways to bring problems to solution but they are releasing information that in their opinion is wrong, bad, etc or because their favored candidate did not win.

Who made them King to decide to release this? Who says they know a hill of beans what they are talking about? Who says they are in a position to know something else going on that may dovetail? And let's face it politics is like making sausage, it is ugly to watch. And Presidents, Prime Ministers often talk off the record and make under the table agreements that support the larger agenda. That did not just start today or with this administration.

And to record and release these conversations is a detriment to the current administration's ability to work with anyone but future administrations as well. It is a bell that can't be unrung and is bad for us all.
If we didn't have leaks we would have no idea what this president was up to because he lies all the time. If we didn't have leaks, corrupt Nixon would have never resigned. Most in the white house don't take oaths to work there. The leakers are heros because they get to the truth. And it doesn't matter how hard Sessions rhetoric is....there will always be leakers.

That's true. But most of what has been leaking is not classified, and therefore not prosecutable. No matter how upset people are by the revelations of internal infighting and by some of the truly weird stuff that Trump says.

So you were fine when Clinton and Obama had leakers and tried to shut them down?

No one heard a peep out of me on that subject.

It's pretty much part of the tug-of-war that normally goes on among a group of high-powered folks jostling to be the closest to the president.

What's different about Trump's administration is how frequent it is - suggesting that Trump is not very good at picking employees - and the outlandish nature of some of the stuff that is being leaked.

Psssst ... No one likes a tattle tale, as they are a person who can not be trusted with a secret. If foreign leaders can't trust the POTUS not to, 'leak' their intel, who can they trust? Trump failed with Israel, so do you really think Putin, will tell Trump anything he doesn't want repeated?

Intelligence gathering just got to be a much tougher job
as no one is going to tell them anything ... and our security has a hole in it the size of Texas.
