I'm trying to put together a list of events happening in the Latino/Hispanic community or events that promote various Hispanic/Latino cultures in and around Pittsburgh for the rest of the year. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck looking online because it seems that most groups haven't updated for very far into the future. I'm particularly interested in finding events in the fall and winter. I'd also be interested in weekly or monthly events (for instance, I know that Seviche has Salsa night every week). Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated!

Good luck with this. In a metro area that's 1% Hispanic you aren't going to find much and you won't hear the local media mention any (if there are any even) events going on because the population is small and spread out through the area; as in there are a couple Hispanics in most places but hardly any with a large enough concentration to call a 'community'.

Trust me, I knew it wasn't going to be easy but I figured any input can help. There are definitely cultural organizations that I've found, it's just that most of the events that they've posted are for the summer months rather than for the rest of the year. Hopefully they'll update their websites soon so that I can get a somewhat respectable list.

Anyone that has provided me with links, thanks! I'm starting to look into them.

Please contact LACU (Latin American Cultural Union) and also check out the salsa pittsburgh website (google them). The salsa website has all the night clubs and latin dances going on in the area.

Also get a list of Latino (mexican, peruvian, argetinian, venezuelan etc, etc) restaurants in Pgh and ask the owners what's going on on weekly basis.

Also check if there is still that haitian writier - forgot his name - in residence with Pitt. Sometimes the local theatres put on works of Latin American authors. Other times there are latino bands coming in concert (usually at a school or smth) like it was this doctor in Fox Chapel who brought a tango group from Buenos Aires a couple of years ago. The show was free and it took place in shadyside academy auditorum and it was out of this world.

Although the population is 1% you'll find out there's quite a lot going on, from food to entertainment to serious art.

Good luck.

Latin American Cultural Union Picnic at Schenley Park, August 18: RSVP for the LACU PICNIC (RSVP by 8/11)

Keep checking the Hispanic Studies departments at local universities because once the school year starts they'll have activities, talks, events, etc. And as XRiteMA98 said, check with local restaurants and grocers: they'll know of things, and they'll often have posters up in their windows and on their bulletin boards of local stuff. There's also a Spanish-language Pittsburgh magazine / paper (I don't remember which); I've seen it at the Peruvian restaurant in the Strip District.

Also a number of links to organizations at the bottom of this page: http://www.clpgh.org/research/social...ic/latino.html Some are more active and worthwhile than others.

Butler would surprise you too. There's a real, authentic mexican restaurant in Butler. I went there for lunch with a friend. Real mexicans who can hardly speak English. Granted, I've never had authentic Mexican food so I can't speak to if the food is truly authentic. But the staff was certainly authentic!
