I have an offer for a job in Phoenix, and am considering relocating from the Miami area. My job would be downtown, near Chase Field, so I'm looking for suggestions on places to live, as I don't know a whole lot about the area.

My ideal price range would be in the 900-1300 range for a 1-2 bdrm condo or apt, and initially I would prefer a shorter commute to explore the area on my free time. I am a single 35 year old male, so the college aged crowd is not preferred, but bars close by are a nice feature, as well as golf courses within a short drive (although the golf courses don't seem to be an issue regardless of location).

I've contacted a realtor and have some listings for places in central/downtown, but from reading these forums am trying to figure out if that's a good place to look or if Scottsdale or Tempe would be better. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I live downtown/Roosevelt area and love it. Lot's of people on this forum will tell you downtown is dead but I've found tons of bars and restaurants In the area just north of downtown. Check out Roosevelt square or 44 Monroe both of which are upscale condos I believe are in your price range. Tempe is nice but is filled with college aged kids that can't hold their liquor. Old town is nice as well but is more of a status seeking dance club scene. the downtown area is maybe a little rough around the edges but is more of an eclectic/artsy type of crowd. Walking to work is a huge bonus as well.

I love Tempe, but downtown/midtown sounds right for you. I think you'd love it.

You might want to consider north central phoenix - along central north of camelback. It is a great central location if you are looking for somewhere different than downtown. You could take the lightrail easily in and out. There are a lot of fun restaurants and bars popping up in the area

The AM traffic coming out of Tempe headed west towards Phoenix is terrible.
