Well then why to New York teams play in North Jersey? Do they just view it as an extension of NYC? To me, it is all the same big MESS, but if I have to go into NYC, I take the train.

Because they wanted their own stadium after sharing Yankees stadium with the Yankees.

Was Shea Stadium which they shared with the Mets and Jets. Then was off to the Meadowlands. Today both the Giants and Jets share Met Life stadium in East Rutherford.

Why locate it in New Jersey, and not New York? Why do New York teams play in New Jersey? Can you imagine the uproar if the Eagles moved to Camden some day?

Isn't Philadelphia rare in that all 4 major teams play within the city limits anyhow?

One person who might be able to answer your question is southbound but I doubt she's looking at a sports thread. She knows a lot about Jersey politics and so on. She probably knows why those teams left NY.

If you can find this complete documentary, Jersey Guys, you'll have a more thorough answer than the article. Basically, the Giants wanted their own stadium, and NJ accommodated them.

The answer has to be money. What else would it be? I think the Jets were looking at a Manhattan site a couple years ago before the new Met Life stadium was done but it was just too expensive.

Agreed. They also may have received the best deal going to NJ regardless of site acquisition costs, infrastructure, etc. I don't agree with public money going to these teams via new stadiums, but it happens all over, including Philly.

The municipalities need to do a cost/benefit analysis of what they are contributing vs benefits in terms of jobs, revenue, etc. I don't agree with wasting money on this, but it's possible that it's clearly net gain for the city or state (I don't personally know what the numbers are for this).
