My husband is currently interviewing for a Sales position in the Baltimore area. The housing in Md. is insane and we are looking to move from Michigan to the York/Dover area. Any idea what the drive would be like for him? The company he is interviewing with said they thought driving from Dover would be too long a drive!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dover is definitely more than 45-50 minutes from downtown Baltimore in rush hour conditions; that town is on the northwest side of York, and I think you'd be pushing it to get to downtown Baltimore in that time from Dover in free flow conditions.

Parts of the York area are definitely within 45-50 minutes of downtown Baltimore, possibly even in rush hour conditions. Try to stick to places south of York or if you can't find anything, east of York not far from I-83. One nice town I'd definitely recommend checking out is Red Lion, which is southeast of York.

Dover to Baltimore would be well over an hour, especially since it would take a good 15-20 minutes to get on to 83. From the Route 30/83 intersection to Baltimore is 55 miles, and parts of it seem to be forever under construction or with delays from accidents or repairs. Staying south of York city would be quicker-areas such as Red Lion, Jacobus, Stewartstown, Glen Rock, or even Dallastown.

Thank you both very much for the information. It definately helped! That is a bit longer than we thought but he says still do-able! I personally think it is too long a drive but then I hate driving!

Thanks again for your help!

I make the drive to towson (edit- towson is 10 miles north of downtown bmore) everyday from Red Lion. It is 45 miles and takes 45 minutes in normal conditions. I leave at 5 everyday, which may be extreme for your husbands commute/work schedule. On weekends it takes 30 minutes.

But to avoid the home prices in MD i would say it is well worth it. Stay away from the towns near the line like Shrewsbury and New Freedom. They are literally 2 minutes from 83, but everyone has the same idea and since it is the closest people can live to baltimore in PA, the housing prices are beginning to reach MD levels.

The towns others have suggested are all good ones. And I can attest to Red Lion as a great location. Small town with a nice center where every halloween it is shut down for the kids to parade through. Good schools (D town is the best south of York with Central and suburban being slightly better, but they arent south).
