I hear the names Ashton, Ellie and Kayla every single day. I don't know if those people spell them funny or not but the name is pronounced the same no matter how it's spelt. Mira isn't a popular name anymore, probably because of Myra Hindley.
I don't. Maybe those names are more popular in your region. And the name is KALAH (pronounced Kah-la, not Kay-la).

There are 4 Ashtons in the first grade alone at my daughter's school. 3 of my husband's cousins have kids named Ellie. It's mentioned by at least 3 separate posters as a unique name they don't hear often just in this thread. And you can be sure that I'm not the only person who would think Kalah is pronounced Kayla. Just sayin'.

OK. Those names are not too common around here, as I stated before. So that's why I mentioned them. As for Kalah, that's my nieces name and almost no one has called her Kayla.
My cousin named her daughter Francesca. It's a beautiful name. She wanted a name that wouldn't end up with a nickname. Her daughter goes by Cheesy.
I have a great aunt whose name is Francesca and we all call her Aunt Fannie There are plenty of nicknames that come from Francesca, so I don't know what your cousin was thinking.
Frankie and Cesca are the two usual ones for Francesca.
