Many schools and clubs now ask parents permission about taking photos of their child.

I always give the OK but some parents do not.

Do you give the OK or not?

I sign the consent form, my understanding of it was whether or not you mind if your child is indentified in the picture. Our elementary school also puts out a directory of the students and you are given a form and you put in the info you wish to be listed in the directory, i.e. childs name, parents name, phone #, address, siblings. IMO that's too much info so we don't fill that one out.

i'm not allowed to.i'm a foster carer and the children i have currently would be at risk from the birth family if they saw a picture and the school was identified.
this happened ,because the school made a mistake!consiquence.....i was told by police to pick and drop of early, i was given a panic button and even now....3 yrs on the police still drive past most nights and sometimes call in.
the 1st time, was at 11.50 pm.........it gave me the fright of my life,as i'd been told to be very careful of security as the b dad is a dangerous man,i heard a banging late at night looked out to see a big burley man on my door step!

Good point.
I think legally, that 'wards of the state' are not allowed to be photod.

I always sign the permission slips for the school to take photos and identify my kids if they want to. I have always lived in small communities and everybody knows who my (and everybody elses) kids are anyway.

I am ok with it. I even gave the ok for them to use a photo of my twins for their website. It's not as if they give full names or show them naked or something.

I do not give general permission but request that the school notify me if the need arises.

We got an interesting request from high school this year along the same lines. It was not only granting permission for photos and the standard stuff but also any rights to school work submitted to the school..that they have the rights to that intellectual property and not the student. You can bet your fanny that we didn't sign that. It is a magnet school with engineering programs and facilities...so if a kid builds/designs/invents something it belongs to the school. It would also apply to stories or other kinds of creative endeavors...the school would 'own' them. I don't think so!!
