the patient I think has grounds, the doctor has no losses unless complications arose from the nurse not being there. I think all he can do is gripe and complain and make sure the Manager gets his slap but good. The Nurse can't sue for how they fired/laid her off. She was to have been set aside no matter what. The over eager manager will most likely get it on his record and slapped wrist... he was after all just doing his job (overly zealous about it). I think he just wanted her OFF the pay role as fast as he could manage it. Mostly I think it would be all considered frivolous lawsuits, except possible the patient and if it was minor surgery without possible life or death situation or one arising due to loss of one nurse... then he/she doesn't have a leg to stand on either. (Unless it is proven that the manager acted maliciously)
Wow... I'd say that I'm shocked, but these things just don't seem to surprise me anymore. It seems like ethics aren't the only thing missing from this situation.
