Hey guys, I'm sure someone somewhere covered this but I just felt like starting a new thread so forgive me if I'm beating a dead horse here. It looks like I am going to try out consulting on my own for awhile and my company in New York is my first client, which should take me through the summer for now. Anyways, I need to get my own private medical insurance since I'll be on my own now and just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for private medical insurance in Florida.

Btw, made the move from NY to Mount Dora and the first week has been awesome! More details to come, but I have to say a lot of the negativity that I have read in here just isn't apparent to me yet. Yes I know, it's only a week but I was all over the place last week between furniture shopping, dining out, job interviews, etc.

Mt. Dora is a beautiful area. There really isn't that much negative about it. If I worked closer to Mt. Dora, it would be my first choice of places to live in Central Florida.

There is one thing you need to know that most people don't realize. The Orange County line comes within about 2 miles of downtown Mt. Dora. Personally, I wouldn't live in the Orange County side if you have kids going to public school - those schools are pretty bad. The Lake County schools are significantly better. Eventually, I think Orange County may build some new schools out that way; but for now I believe the high school is still in Apopka.

Also, the Orange County side doesn't have water or sewer. Everything is on well and septic - another drawback. The positive thing about the Orange County side is that all of the lots are fairly large, due to the fact that they don't have water and sewer.

Blue Cross Blue Shield has such a plan. You might also try AETNA but I am not certain if they will write a policy for 1.

Thanks JHL, I checked out both BCBS and Aetna and they both have pretty solid plans. Not nearly as expensive as I thought, but I'm basing that on NY costs I guess.

Prichard, we actually have water and sewer from Mount Dora. It's a really weird location for Stoneybrook Hills because we seem to get many of the Mount Dora amenities but we pay taxes to Orange County and yes our daughter is going to Orange County schools. The middle school she is attending was just finished this year, but I have heard a lot of great things about it and her first week has been great. They are building a new high school in Apopka and I have confidence that she will have as good of an education as she would have gotten at Mount Dora High. I haven't heard anything fantastic about the Mount Dora schools.
