My title pretty much describes what I want to know.

My husband is possibly getting a job in Hermiston. We have 3 small kids (2 are school age this coming year). Are schools good in Hermiston? Is it a safe place to raise a family? Is it an overall nice area?

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I have friends who live out that way (moved from Portland about 10 years ago) and they like to call it "God's Country" - on the other hand, they are very in to farming, family, horses and faith - I forget the name of the Christian ministry their teens belong to. If those are your values, you will likely be happy there.

I always though it was a little too much on the dusty, dry and brown side for me, but they have a huge circle of friends and love it.

Thanks for the info!
We're not extremely religious but religion doesn't bother us either.
Sounds like an overall nice place to live.

Ag Centric community which is very different than a 'timber' or urban centric, but can be great if that fits your style.

Agricultural areas are great for kids. The 4-H will be very active and that is a good thing for kids to keep them busy and well supervised.

If you have a job transfer, you will figure out how to fit in. There is lots of outdoor activity stuff for families. Outdoor stuff is healthy for kids. Lots of hiking and fishing is better than endless hours playing video games.

Schools all over Oregon are fine for kids who have parents who actively monitor their child's education. Parental participation is the key to a good education.

Shopping is very adequate for day to day living needs and there is online for anything else.

Religion is private in Oregon so it won't be in-your-face.

Hermiston is best known around Oregon as the place that produces high quality watermelons. We all wait every summer for the Hermiston melons to finally be here. If you have kids, living in a town known for watermelons is better than raising your kids in a place that is well known for meth use, or living in a place well known for homeless kids from all over the country to come and be homeless by choice.

Thanks everyone! It sounds like a nice area that we'll be able to call home if my husband gets the job! We should know this week. Thanks again! 😊
