Hi to all - I moved from northern Cal a few months ago and am currently living in Mass for a year due to family obligations. Next year I will be heading to middle Oregon to look for a permanent home. Somewhere in between Eugene - Bend - Medford area. (Yes, I know it is a large area.) While in Cal I averaged 1 mosquito bit a year. I am getting eaten alive here. Most days so far, just being outside anytime is unpleasant. Wondering how the mosquito / black fly / deer fly / no seeum etc is in middle Oregon.
Thanks for any info

Why start a new thread when there is an identical thread within sight?

Well, there is a skeeter problem in Bandon, although it's not in "middle" Oregon:

Bandon still suffering from mosquito problem | Local & Regional News | KCBY CBS 11 - News, Weather and Sports - Coos Bay - North Bend, OR

Annoying mosquitoes are out in massive numbers in and around Bandon : Bandon

I didn't know that the Weather Channel did this, but they have a Mosquito Activity Forecast page.
Just type the in the location and hit "go", and you are all set.
(I have no idea how accurate this is?)

Huh, hadn't seen that before. For my area it says "moderate" and if I click on moderate, it leads to a disclaimer box that says that they are only forecasting the kinds of things that keep mosquitoes away (wind, rain, etc) not the actual number of mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes, in most parts of Oregon, tend to be seasonal - much worse in the spring and early summer, better later in the year. I don't go up into the Cascades or Crater Lake until at least mid-August. We hateses bitey things, but they love me, unfortunately, so if there is a mosquito around, it will find me. Overall there aren't a lot of mosquitoes, but if you are the type of person they like, you'll get several bites a season, more if you are in the mountains, swampy places, lakes, etc.

Black flies, deer flies are uncommon, no-see-ums just about unheard of.

Well, I don't actually read the Eugene or Salem forums, as I don't have a lot of specific answers in those areas, so I didn't see the other one. It isn't the same poster asking the question, and the other post is asking specifically about the Eugene area where as this poster is asking about several places. Nothing to get worked up about here.

That is why there is a search function. See if the question is already answered. In this case the Ol' "I wanted fresh information" excuse is not valid. They just didn't bother to check.
